Each unit carries a list of equipment: hose loads, ladders, and appliances such as a master stream or a deck gun. A hose load can also have a slot, the place on the truck it rides: a crosslay, a lane of the rear bed, or a lane of the front bumper. Program a unit's loads once, and a line laid from one can start right at its slot, in the load's color, while the app keeps track of the hose left in each bed.
Open a unit's equipment
In Admin, open the Vehicles & Equipment tab, find the unit, and press Equipment on its row. The Equipment Editor opens with a to-scale, top-down drawing of the unit beside the list of everything it carries.
Only a department admin and above sees the Vehicles & Equipment tab, so only they can change a unit's loads.
A new engine, truck, or quint starts with standard equipment. None of it sits in a slot until you set one.
Set up a load
Add an item with the form under the list, or open an existing one to change it. Each item has a Type (a handline, LDH, ladder, aerial, master stream, blitz fire, trash line, hotel pack, deck gun, or other item), a Label your crews know it by, a Length in feet, and a Deploy From side. The sides on offer depend on the type: front, driver's, officer's, rear, top, or aerial.
- Hose loads, meaning handlines, LDH, master streams, blitz fires, trash lines, and hotel packs, also have a Diameter.
- Every type except a ladder or an aerial has a Color row of eight swatches. A hose load's lines are drawn in its color.
- Every item has a Preconnect checkbox. On a handline, LDH, trash line, or hotel pack, checking it makes the load single-use: laying it once puts it in use. Left unchecked, the load is a bed that a crew can lay from more than once, until its length runs out. See Lay from one hose bed more than once.
Put a load in a slot
A hose load that comes off the front, the rear, or either side also has a Slot field that names where it rides:
- Crosslays 1 to 4, over the pump panel and numbered front to rear, for a load pulled to the driver's or officer's side.
- Five lanes across the rear bed, for a load off the rear.
- Three lanes across the front bumper, for a load off the front.
Left and right are the truck's own: left is the driver's side, at the rear as at the front. A load with no slot starts at the middle of its side (the pump panel, on an engine), or at the center of the front or the rear.
To pick a slot, choose it from the Slot list, or press an open slot on the drawing, which outlines each free slot on the load's side. Choosing a slot that another load already holds shows a warning under the form that names that load. A crosslay counts as one bed whichever side its line is pulled to.
Change, reorder, or remove a load
To change a hose load, press its mark on the drawing: a solid mark sits in a slot, and a dashed one has none. To change any item, press Edit beside it in the list. The item opens in the form, where Update takes the place of Add, and Cancel Edit leaves the item as it was and clears the form.
The up and down arrows beside an item in the list move it. That order is the order a crew sees when deploying from the unit. Remove takes the item off the unit's layout.
Copy a layout from another unit
For a unit loaded like another, press Copy from another unit, choose the unit to copy under Copy from, and press Copy. The list offers the department's other units that carry equipment. A copy replaces the whole list, ladders included, rather than adding to it, so the app confirms first; on a unit that already has equipment, it asks "Replace this layout?". Nothing is saved until you save the layout.
Save the layout
Changes stay in the editor until you press Save Equipment. Until then, the editor reads "Unsaved changes". Cancel closes the editor without saving. If a save fails, your changes stay in the editor and it reads "Not saved. Your changes are still here, so try again."
Lay a line from its slot on the map
On a placed unit whose position is saved, in edit mode with the Select tool, zoom in to the map's two closest zoom levels. Each hose load that has a slot shows as a chip in its color beside the truck, with a thin leader to the point its line starts from. Chips need the member role or above, and they hide while a line or ladder is being deployed.
- With a mouse, press a chip and drag. The line's first stroke starts at the slot, in the load's color.
- With touch or the keyboard, tap the chip, or press Enter or Space on it. The draw opens at the slot, and you draw the line from there.
A chip dims and can't be pressed once its load is in use: a bed with less than a whole foot left, or a single-use load, such as a preconnect, that's already laid.
When the draw opens with no stroke under way, as it does after a tap on a chip or Deploy in the equipment list, your first press decides where the line starts. A press near the slot starts it exactly at the slot. A press anywhere else on the truck starts it where you pressed, which is how a line shows it went around the truck. A press off the truck keeps the start at the slot.
Wherever it starts, the line keeps its load's color on the 2D map, in replay, and in 3D, and the PDF from Export as PDF lists it beside a swatch of that color. The Equipment tab and the deploy list show a load's slot under its name, for example "Crosslay 1 · Driver's" or "Rear left".
Lay a line from the equipment list
Select a placed unit whose position is saved and press Deploy Equipment to list its hose loads and ladders. Deploy beside an item starts laying it, from its slot when it has one. An item marked in use has no Deploy button: a bed with less than a whole foot left, or a single-use item already deployed, such as a preconnect, master stream, blitz fire, ladder, or aerial.
When a lay needs more hose than is left
A lay longer than the hose left never stops the line. After each stroke, if the line needs more hose than is left in its bed, a warning gives both numbers, and you keep drawing:
This lay needs … ft; … ft is left in the bed.
A preconnect or another single-use load warns the same way, with the load's own length: "This lay needs … ft; the preconnect is … ft." or "This lay needs … ft; the load is … ft." The warning appears in the drawing bar and under the length gauge on the deploy panel. Dragging a point of a line already laid past what's left shows the same warning as a toast.
Extend, on a line's right-click menu or on the menu at its last point, goes straight back into drawing from where the line ends, and warns the same way when the line needs more hose than is left.
